Good Faith Estimate

The “No Surprises Act” of January 1, 2022 requires health care professionals to provide clients with a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) to those who are either don’t have insurance or chosing to self-pay for medical services, including psychotherapy. The purpose of the GFE is to provide the client with the reasonably expected costs of services. This GFE estimate is based on the known circumstances at the time of creation and may not reflect unexpected or unknown costs, complications, or unique circumstances. The health care provider is required to provide the client an updated GFE if treatment circumstances change.

Common services provided at Virginia Counseling include:

90791: Initial Psychotherapy intake (untimed): $160.00
90837: Ongoing psychotherapy appointment (approximately 53–60 minutes): $140.00
90834: Ongoing psychotherapy appointment (approximately 38–45 minutes): $100.00

Common diagnosis codes at Virginia Counseling include, among others:

  • Major Depressive Disorder (F33.–)
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (F41.1)
  • Social Anxiety Disorder (F40.10)
  • Adjustment Disorder (F43.23)
  • ADHD (F90.09)
  • Bipolar Disorder (F31.9)

Virginia Counseling understands that each individual’s mental health service needs are unique. Therefore, the frequency and duration that each individual will engage in therapy will vary. Among the factors that may determine the length and frequency of services are:

  • The schedule and availability of both the client and the provider
  • Specific or ongoing life issues and challenges
  • Practical matters such as personal finance considerations

The client and provider will work together to continually assess the client’s needs and therapeutic progress towards treatment goals. The provider will issue a new GFE if/when necessary.
